WORKSHOP 5: PUTTING THE LOCAL ECONOMY IN THE SERVICE OF THE COMMON GOOD

This workshop will look at the role which local currencies can play in strengthening local economies. How does a local currency work? And how exactly does it promote “the real economy”, empower citizens and reduce inequalities? We will look at local currency plans for Brussels, but also get to know about a pilot “digital coin” in Barcelona. Moreover, we will ask how such local economies, strengthened by local currencies, can interchange with each other. How can local production be reconciled with global design and global exchange and still serve the many rather than the few?
